Self-Reflection

A constant exploration of the human experience has marked Fahmina’s journey as an artist. Through her vibrant paintings, she expresses a range of emotions, from happiness and love to grief and loneliness, as well as the impact of migration, social issues, and politics. This exhibition, “Self-Reflection,” represents a significant departure for the artist as it is the first time, she has shared her personal story through her art.

Inspired by her observations of people, her travels, and the cultures she encountered, Fahmina’s earlier paintings sought to capture the essence of humanity while avoiding the pitfalls of fantasy. Yet, despite her desire to separate her personal life from her artistic pursuits, she found that the two often intersected, leading to a constant tension between her inner self and her creative expression.

At times, she struggled with the societal and religious conflicts that surrounded her, striving to promote unity and common humanity, yet feeling like she had failed as an artist, a woman, and a human being. But she moved forward, guided by the words of Rabindranath Tagore, “If they answer not to thy call, walk alone.”

In this exhibition, Fahmina presents a series of 15 paintings that delve into her personal life and emotions, exploring the complexities of self-reflection. Through her masterful use of color, form, and texture, she invites the audience to join her on this introspective journey and gain a deeper understanding of their selves. We proudly present this exhibition, a powerful example of introspection and creativity, and invite you to experience it yourself.”
